Only one week to go, well less than a few days on this side of the world, but in one week from now I’ll be landing in Sydney! I’m super excited, to see the land, to meet the family I will be working as an au pair for, and to feel the warm air! I’m over winter already! So glad I won't be flying out of the northeast though, they’ve got a terrible blizzard going on up there and it would be even more strange to step onto the plane in snow attire and then land in Sydney ready for beaches and summer! :)
I’ve been quite busy the past few days, meeting with some friends last minute getting some hugs and love before I go. I am going to miss a lot of people here and they have done a pretty good job at trying to convince me to stay! I know they are happy and excited for me and don't seem to mind me going when I tell them I will bring things back for them. :)
Packing is not one of my best skills, and lately I’ve become a bit sluggish with it, I just want to be sure I have everything I need, which in my brain calculates to…. bring everything. :-/ I can travel light if I’m going on a trip for a few days, but I’m packing for a year so it’s a bit more difficult than what I’m used to. I’ve so many gifts too and I keep wanting to bring more but my wallet and suitcase brokenheartedly remind me that there's no more room.
As I’ve said I’m super excited to go to Oz, but I’m a bit nervous about arriving there. The original plan was that on arrival I would be picked up by my host family, through some mandatory work meetings that they could not get moved around, I am going to be taking a taxi from the airport to their house, which is fine with me! I think I’m just sad that there won’t be anyone to greet me as I arrive and say “Welcome to Straya!” with a stubby (beer) in one hand and a sausage sanger (a sausage sandwich) in the other… or at least my imagination shows that’s how Aussies would welcome you… but only maybe if you were meeting a bogan (redneck) haha! Ah well, never mind I will still be just as excited to see the beautiful country down under. :)
Now I’ve got to get back to work, and by work I mean trying to start my US taxes, finish up some emails with the agency, configure some USA things and just lots of boring stuff before I go. Also I've go to mentally solve the puzzle of and how to pack all that I'm bringing, I’m halfway done, but just know that if you see me this week I will probably be a little out of it in processing everything mentally. Every night that gets closer my nerves seem to think it’s the perfect time to have a staring contest with the ceiling. ( -_- ) Being a night owl ya get used to it, hopefully I’ll catch up once I get on that looooong 14 hour flight from LA to Sydney!
I’ll keep you posted on things from here on out… I want to keep a blog but not quite sure how often I will be able to do it, but I will do my best to keep things entertaining! :)
Just for fun... :)
